KODÁLY IN GALYATETŐ – Kodály Memorial Year 2017
„Here I am again where we used to come every year since 1941 and where every single bush reminds me of her” – wrote Zoltán Kodály about Galyatető in 1959 after the death of his first wife, Emma Sándor. Kodály was glad to spend his time in Mátra Mountains since his young days. In the spring of 1954 two connecting rooms on the first floor of the Grand Hotel in Galyatető was offered for the couple as their regular place for holidays and they went there several times a year, at least for ten days. In the Kodály Memorial Hall of the hotel – now called Grandhotel Galya – Balázs Fülei will have a series of concerts on the 50th anniversary of the composer's death; the date of his first solo recital is April 29th.
DOHNÁNYI PIANO QUINTET WITH THE KODÁLY STRING QUARTET
The young Dohnányi composed his Piano Quintet in C minor in 1895; in fact, this work was his test piece for his first academic year. His professor for composition, Hans Koessler was so satisfied that he went to show the manuscript to Brahms who said he could not have written it better himself and then intervened to have the work presented in Vienna in that same year. The audience will have the opportunity to listen to the Piano Quintet in C minor performed by the Kodály String Quartet and Balázs Fülei on May 13th in the Budapest Music Center.
SCHUBERT DAY AT THE KÁROLYI CASTLE
This will be the first Schubert Day arranged at the Károlyi Castle in Fehérvárcsurgó which hopefully will mark the beginning of a tradition. In the following years expectedly not just a single day but even an entire weekend in May could be dedicated to a composer. On May 14th the Auer Trio will perform all the piano trios by Franz Schubert, closing this special programme with the Trio in E flat major described by Robert Schumann as „one of the most passionate celestial phenomenons of contemporary music life”.
THE „ALLEGRO BARBARO” TOUR CONTINUES
Allegro Barbaro, the joint concert programme of Muzsikás Folk Ensemble and Balázs Fülei has been enriched with further elements never seen or heard before. During their spring concert tour in Hungary the audience will have their first opportunity to enjoy the experience of hearing folk instruments during Bartók's works or seeing dance to Bartók's music as well. In May the concert will be performed in eight Hungarian cities.
